2023 Penmar Match Play Invitational:

Mark Davidson Triumphs!

Mark Davidson (R) bested professional commercial pilot Cameron Speyer (L) in an ultimate no-handicap 18-hole showdown that came all the way down to  a pair of chips on the final green on No. 9. Mark, who works in the medical device industry, to collect his first Penmar club match play title. Match officials Larry Cloud and Dave Chung witnessed the supreme skill of both players launching jaw-dropping drives, escaping tough tree-dominant lies, and drilling pressure putts from 8 to 12 feet out. Congrats Mark!

2023 President's  Cup Winner:

Jonathan Huynh!

Jonathan (R) bested defending champ Mahendra Lal to capture his first President's Cup title. According to Larry, he won the 18th hole to finish a dramatic final one up. Jonathan, an expert in cybersecurity operations, also won six straight matches in the 64-player handicap-applied tournament in earning the championship. Congrats Jonathan!

2022 President's  Cup Winner:

Mahendra Lal!

Mahendra (L) outdueled Penmar club leader Larry Cloud 1-up after 27 holes in a tight final in October. Mahendra, a retired entrepreneur in the auto repair industry, immigrated to the U.S. from Fiji via Britain and swung his first golf club in America. He displayed short-game prowess throughout the 64-player handicap-applied tournament.

2022 Club Match Play Champion:

Brian Kenney!

Congrats to Brian (R), who played solid, steady golf in the 18-hole no-handicap final in winning his first title against reigning 2-time champ Jeff Schild (L). Fun fact: Brian (3.6 GHIN) and Jeff (4.3 GHIN) hail from the same suburb of Chicago, but they first met at a Penmar Club event in West Los Angeles! Small (golfing) world...

2021 Club Match Play Champion:

Jeff Schild! 

Jeff (R) repeated his title in the no-handicap match play championship. He defeated Conor Lavin, a formidable opponent, 2 and 1 in the 18-hole final! In the above photo Jeff, a professional architect, receives the trophy from Penmar Club President Larry Cloud (L).

2021 President's Cup Champion:

Bailey Harris!

Bailey, a law school student who recently took up golf and joined the Penmar club in late 2020, took home the hardware after winning six matches in a row! He defeated Peter Lipp 2 and 1 in the final. Bailey's father Neal also did very well in the 64-player bracket, reaching the quarterfinals.

2020 Club Match Play Champion:

Jeff Schild!

Jeff (R), an accomplished architect, followed up his 2019 Penmar President's Cup title with 2020's Match Play crown. He beat perennial champion Brian Wolf in a tight no-handicap final!

2020 President's Cup Champion:

David K. Chung

Dave, a business and finance journalist who joined Penmar club in the fall of 2019, prevailed 2-up in the 18-hole Penmar By The Sea final over tenacious opponent Stephen Vincent during a year of tough matches amid Covid-19. Yet, Penmar succeeded in completing a 64-player tournament!

On Sunday, Feb 9th, 2020, the Random Golf Club held one of their events at Penmar! Seeing three groups of thirty players tee off was worth the trip!
